New Edition

For this revised edition I revisited every one of the 20 destinations in An Hour From Paris and re-walked every step of the way, accompanied by enthusiastic map-checking volunteers to whom I am very grateful. The text and maps have been completely updated, but I decided to keep 19 of the original destinations, as they are still the best value for visitors on foot.

New additions

  • the chapter on Villeneuve Triage, replacing Malesherbes
  • three restaurants, at Villennes, Villeneuve and Andrésy
  • four walks, at Villeneuve, Montfort and Andrésy
  • the château de Groussay park at Montfort (cover photo)
  • markets at St Germain-en-Laye, Versailles and Créteil
  • Renaissance concert at Ecouen

Other new features

  • Chronology of French Rulers
  • Table of Best Days to Visit, showing at a glance on which days of the week the châteaux, museums, markets, restaurants and boat trips are open
  • tips on how to navigate new French websites, telephone numbers and ticket machines in the Practical Details chapter
  • improved maps throughout, completely re-drawn for Champs, Montfort and Montmorency
  • more colour photos
